Along the Way
From beside cerulean waves
their banks adorned with iris and sage
we plucked soft petals sparkling with dew.
though then the clouds loomed o’er head
we paid no heed, but followed Fate’s thread
wherever the fickle wind blew
To forests clad in autumn hue
where the red-capped ginger grew
one I kept and tucked away.
the sky grew dark, it smelled of rain
and lightning ran in heaven’s veins
yet from our path we would not stray
Upon the threshold of the day
we stood facing the mount, stark and gray
I touched then the wolfsbane and knew
storm-clouds gathered close behind
our hope and courage maligned
as we defy the night anew
across the river running we pursue
yet through it all I think of you
and touch the snowdrop to my heart
though we venture beyond the pale
‘gainst the shadows we shall prevail
